Cenosphere is a low density, alumina-silicate microsphere. It is hollow, lightweight, and has a hard shell and good flow rate due to its sphericity. It is a recycled product made from the pulverized ash from coal-fired power stations. Cenosphere is basically thin-walled hollow spherical particle with relative density of less than 1.0. It is floated on water and recovered from the float up of ash disposal lagoons. Cenosphere has a similar chemical composition as that of fly ash. Cenosphere is used in various industries due to its unique combination of spherical shape, high compression, low specific gravity, good thermal and acoustical insulation properties, and inertness to acids and alkalis. It is used in refractory tiles, fire bricks, insulating materials, coatings, alumina cement, injection moldings, film, nylon, HDP, LDP, PP, PVC flooring composites, underwater coatings, body fillers, specialty cements, roofing materials, and so on.
