N-butanol is a primary alcohol with a four carbon structure. Its isomers include isobutanol, 2-butanol, and tert-butanol. N-butanol occurs naturally as minor product of fermentation of sugars and carbohydrates. It is widely used in various food & beverages, as an artificial flavoring agent, consumer products. The largest use of n- butanol is in industrial intermediate, specifically for the manufacture of butyl acetate, butyl acrylate, dibutyl phthalate, dibutyl sebacate and other butyl easters and ethers. Other industrial uses include the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, polymers, pyroxylin plastics herbicide easters and printing.
The North American N-Butanol market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of more than 5 % from 2014 to 2019. The rising demand for butyl acrylate and glycol ether, the increasing awareness of bio-fuels and low prices of shale gas are among the key factors driving the market growth.

The North American N-Butanol market, in terms of value, is projected to reach $2,446.8 million by 2019 from $1879.6 million in 2014, at a CAGR of 5.4% from 2014 to 2019. The rising demand butyl acrylate and glycol ether; the growing awareness of bio-fuels and its advantages; and high price of shale gas in the North American region are some of the key factors driving the market growth.
On the other hand, the changing trend in the consumption pattern of the n-butanol due to the regulatory restrictions and the saturated North American market are likely to restrain market growth in the coming years.
U.S. dominates the North American market for n-butanol having accounted for around 87 % market share in 2014, followed by Canada. The Mexico is expected to become a major market for n-butanol in the coming years witnessing the highest CAGR of more than 7 %, in terms of value, for the forecast period.

ReplyDeleteN-butanol is an oxo alcohol which is majorly derived from propylene and syngas by oxo process. It is widely employed as a feedstock for the manufacturing of various chemicals including butyl acrylate, butyl acetate, glycol ethers, and plasticizers. It is also used as a direct solvent for paints, coatings, varnishes, resins, dyes, etc. The growth in these segments drives the demand of n-butanol globally. Among various application segments of n-butanol, butyl acrylate industry is the major consumer of n-butanol and the high growth in demand of n-butanol in near future is expected to be driven by this industry segment. Direct solvent application is another rapidly growing segment in various developing countries.
